Into the Lab #6 | Book Updates, Raccoon Visits Scotland And Spooktober!
Monthly window into the lab and life of the Fiction Dealer
Hey there!
Welcome back into my lab. I’ve sort of skipped one into-the-lab post during August to announce my upcoming book. You can read more on that here:
If you upgrade your subscription to paid until 10.10. you’ll be included in the book as a generous patron of the project!
A lot has happened since then, so let's get into it.
The writing updates
As you may know, I'm working on multiple big projects alongside The Fiction Dealer and Microdosing.
Most notably, it is an already-mentioned collection and novel. Let's take a look at those.
The Collection
Last week, I put the finishing touches on the included stories. They're now in the process of proofreading and fixing mistakes. The idea is to have everything ready by next week! I'm super stoked about that.
My Novel
The Dark Child—my Japan-inspired fantasy novel—took a bit of a sidetrack with the collection and everything, but I've added a good seven thousand words to the manuscript and am still chipping away at the edits. Once the collection is out, this project will be my sole focus so it can be serialized next year!
Spooktober x Microdosing!
As the leaves turn red and orange, the times for hot tea, cozy reading, and spooky stories are upon us. The Fiction Dealer is keeping up with these scary times, and we'll be Microdosing on horror prompts for October!
Now, I'm not saying all of my stories will be horror-themed, even though I'll try to write more horror than usual. But all prompts will have spooky vibes. I can't wait for that.
I'm also working on a brand new Brick of Fiction, which will definitely be a pureblooded horror flash fiction!
Life of the raccoon
A couple of weeks ago, I put out this note introducing myself so you have a face to put behind the words you read. Feel free to check that out!
Other than that, life’s been hectic but good. Summer was amazing since it was my first summer working a job that didn’t require all of my time, including weekends. That being said, I’ve been all over the place, and I can’t wait for the colder months to come, so everything settles down a bit again.
Before that, I’ll enjoy one last trip this year. I’ll be flying to Scotland with my lovely wife next week! Edinburgh has been on my bucket list of cities I want to see forever. Hopefully, walking the cold, wet streets of Edinburgh will inspire the Spooky Microdosing!
If you have any recommendations for the Edinburgh area, let me know!
That’s a wrap. Thank you everyone for supporting me. If you like what I do, you can always support me financially through a paid sub or buy me a cup of coffee!
That's fantastic to hear the book is nearly ready! And the spooky prompts sound like an excellent idea, too. It'll be fun to see what everyone comes up with. Have a great time in Scotland... 😎
Hi Miguel
Delighted to hear you’re coming to our beautiful country. Now, I should say, I’m a west coaster, nearer to Glasgow than Edinburgh, but can still send you some recommendations
If you want spooky you have loads of stuff in Edinburgh including Mary Kings Close :-
https://www.realmarykingsclose.com
Then for history you’ve got Edinburgh Castle of course but also the National Museum of Scotland :-

If you’re looking for somewhere fancy and atmospheric for something to eat then The Witchery is really cool :-
www.thewitchery.com
And, if you do make it further afield and into Glasgow and beyond then there’s a whole load of other stuff like Glasgow Cathedral where they recently filmed the new Frankenstein movie :-

And nearby there’s the famous Glasgow Necropolis where they filmed The Batman :-

And Loch Lomond a wee bit further up the road
Plus Glasgow has the best shopping in Scotland
If you need any more just let me know. Have fun 😁
