"Magnificent work," the Countess said, her hands running over the creases of the statue's face.
"So life-like," added the Count. "You've overdone yourself."
The sculptor bowed. "You are too kind," his voice sizzling like a snake pit.
Together, they moved to another statue in the collection.
Followed by the statue's dead eyes, its screams for help silenced by the unmoving lips.

Statues, sculptures, carved marble pillars of time; Karyotids that held Parthenon’s detailed delta structure—are age-ravaged; not by barbarian hordes. Statues are replaced by plastic replicas to preserve originals in museums. Athen’s pollution gouged acid eaten holes in their forms. Some scaffolding structures still exist to remove the last pillars remains that no longer endure eons and speak silent.
