The house went dark. Mom’s footsteps grew distant, and soon, a rustle sounded from under Katie’s bed. That could mean only one thing, the thing was awakening.
That night, Katie was ready.
As she heard it shuffling, she bent over from the bed, her golden hair touching the ground, and faced glowing eyes.
“Are you hungry, Mr. Boogeyman?” Katie asked.
The creature blinked and nodded slowly.
A smile spread on Katie’s tiny face, and she put a box of cookies on the ground.
The creature stepped forward, illuminated by the soft moonlight. It looked like a huge black squirrel—just a bit more ugly, dark, and less furry. It took the cookie, and with a bite, bliss spread on its face. It purred, and Katie giggled.
Mr. Boogeyman was gone by morning, but Katie knew that if she had cookies, he would be back the next night.
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m from Europe so we don’t celebrate this holiday at all. But I still wanted to mention how grateful I’m for y’all here. Reading my silly stories and writing with me. It means the world.
Cheers!🍻

The boogeyman had been in Cal’s head for four years. Cal saw him everywhere he went. On the street. In the market. At work. On TV. Under the bed of course. He had spread fear throughout the land. Today the boogeyman was behind the curtains. Finally, Cal had enough. Outside, the early November winds howled but Cal steeled himself and resolved to confront his demon once and for all. You handle a boogeyman by facing him head on. Cal flung open the cloth drapes and strode into the voting booth with purpose, to fight with the only weapon he had.
"Look at that thing!" he screamed and pointed. His cameras panned over.
"How Horrible!" the crowd said.
"Fear that thing! I will destroy it! I just need a little help from you," he said.
Everyone cheered and gave him their money.
The thing yawned and went back to sleep. The next morning, it got up and went to school. Everyone screamed at it. They started attacking everything like it.
“Don’t worry, he’ll save us,” they said.
He counted his money and laughed under his breath. Until the money stopped going up.
So, he went online and found something else. “Look at that thing! It’s terrible!”
Everyone screamed in terror. And opened their wallets.
