They called it a home. A place full of love and safety. A sanctuary for the lost—such bullshit.
To me, it represented resentment, split lips, and screaming. So much screaming.
In the very end, screams would make up my last memory of that place as I watched the flame tongues devour the whole house.
A matchbook heavy in my pocket.
Fred pulled what he hoped was the last of the lice from his daughter's hair.
“They are entitled to a home too,” she objected.
“Maybe, but they should show more respect for their host.”
The Earth, observing all this, put a hand to her forehead feeling a notch warmer compared to yesterday, and enjoyed the irony of the exchange.
PROMPT: HOME
THE TRAVELLER
He just wanted to get home.
He was tired and exhausted.
He’d been travelling too long, and now he was stranded in an unfamiliar place, with his transportation beyond repair.
Help was coming, but it was going to be a long wait.
All he could do now was try to stay hidden.
And hope no one realised an alien had landed… 😎
