Freddy woke up in his cell with a wide smile. Today, he gets to see his wife, an early birthday present.
As the hours went by, his excitement faded. She promised. Tears rushed to his eyes.
A guard came by, dropping a cake with a note inside the cell. The note read - Sorry I couldn't make it. Freddy sighed and took a bite, chipping his tooth.
There was a key inside, a key to his freedom.
Loved this.
Microdose of a suggestion: I think the key's purpose is clear enough. What could you do with those last five words instead? "... a key inside, engraved: see you soon, babe." or "And a note: Happy Birthday."
I have to say, this is one of the most fun Substacks I have ever encountered! Thank you for the opportunity to participate! :-)
