The metallic scent of blood lingered in the air as the dying gasps spread across the battlefield.
Benjamin’s grip tightened on the sword, bloodied fingers slick on the hilt. He met the stare of the pale blue eyes of his opponent. For a moment, he saw a kid with a wooden sword again. One that trained by his side. A boy who used to be a brother.
Not anymore.
They nodded. The blades split the air, just like they used to. Known figures and stances. Each move precise. Years under the same master reflected in their clash, but they both knew how it would end.
Ben always won.
Block.
Deflect.
Stab.
Benjamin stepped back, watching the body collapse into the mud—another course for the vultures.
“Goodbye, old friend,” he whispered, ignoring the tears rolling over dusty cheeks.
Dealer’s note:
I’ve been holding this story in drafts for a long time. It was made for a secret thingy I’m planning. But the secret thingy is not happening soon, and I’m impatient so here it is! Hope you like it.
~Miguel
Old friends are the best
They tower above the rest
Cause they know all the details
Of your life in retail
And help in the formation of you
And keep the secrets you want them to
Old friends you can count on
To be there when you' ve shown
How much you need a friend
To pull you through sin
I love my old friends
Thank you , Miguel
Mary was returning for her father's funeral. Unwilling to accept her stepmother's loaded hospitality, she was staying with me.
I hadn't seen her since she left to attend the Sorbonne University, fifty years ago. She became a famous French physicist, I stayed in Hicksville, USA to marry my sweetheart and have a passel of kids. Would we recognize each other? Would she still like me?
The train pulled into the station. A beautiful, grey-haired woman stepped on the platform. She saw me and smiled and the years melted away like they'd never passed. We were still friends - old friends.
