Some wars are invisible. Hidden beyond the white picket fence, the perfect garden, the lovely little house.
Nobody sees the trenches inside—built by the veteran who has never returned.
Belts instead of bullets. Bruises instead of wounds. Each step might as well be on a mine. Screams and cries instead… no… those are the same.
Where is there not a war? I don’t mean in the Middle East or Ukraine. I mean right in here, in me. In you. The war to get through the day, to love yourself despite every stumble, failure and flaw. And what of winning? A smile at sunset. That's victory.
Tough one today Miguel.
It only took me two minutes to write this because I type slow.
I almost didn't submit it. Painful for veterans.
War; hate filled aggression incited by old men with nothing to lose and fought by young people with nothing to gain. Nothing to gain, that is, if you don’t count PTSD, horror–filled nightmares of dead and dying comrades in arms and memories you wish you didn’t have. That’s war.
