It started so small. An event here, a work thing there. Every day I added onto the pile, like stacking files in the office.
Until it tipped over, burying me in the paperwork of life—the ultimate bureaucracy. Drowned under every event I missed, deadlines that passed, and dates I canceled.
Fortunately nobody could fire me over this. So I grit my teeth, picked up the pages.
It was time to file them correctly.

70mg a a PILE
Pile Upon Pile
A pile of papers, a pile of clothes,
a pile of worries nobody knows.
A pile of laughter, a pile of tears,
a pile of memories stacked through years.
...
A pile of maybe, a pile of when,
a pile of “never going back there again.”
Some piles crumble, some piles grow,
some pile higher than we know.
Which to carry? Which to let go?
A pile remains—both friend and foe.
Good to have you back!
Giggsy hung from the beam like a piñata. Two days dead, at least, judging from the pallor.
The inspector had him cut down, removed the bulging billfold from Giggsy’s front coat pocket. Tossed it to his number two.
“Why off yourself with such a fat pile of scratch? It doesn’t tally.”
“Simple,” said the deputy, fanning out the notes like an overgrown poker hand. “They’re not simoleons boss, they’re IOUs.”
