The moment you sat down, the hall went quiet. My heart stopped. The world spun. I felt butterflies in my stomach as you adjusted the chair.
Then you pressed the keys.
One tone, two tones, music so beautiful brought tears to my eyes.
Your mother held my hand—she was crying too—and we watched you play. Our little girl on a big stage.
If pride could lift me, I’d be floating.
Dealer’s note: The last line is actually something my mother says! I recently made a note saying that she found my writing horrifyingly dark, so I hope this will balance it out.
Junie plucked a dandelion, made a wish, and blew with all her might, but a few seeds still clung to the flowerhead. She promptly dropped the treacherous blossom and tried another. Eventually, she succeeded in dispersing all the fluffy seeds, ensuring her wish would be granted. Dad watched the tiny parachutes floating all over the lawn, silently groaning at the future invasion. But he couldn't help but share Junie's happiness.
The capsule stood before her. Nerves set in as she climbed inside. The roar of the engine vibrations as the seat belt tightened.
Aloft! Lights flashed on the console blinking green. Floating into space she announced “I’m an Astronaut!” as she waved out the window. Then, as quick it started, it was now over. Standing beside the ride she called out. “Daddy, got another quarter? So can I go again?
