The first one rolled off the tongue weightless. Once it was out, there was no going back. Another came soon, cementing the story. One more to cover loose ends.
Days that didn’t happen, people who didn’t exist. Brick by brick, I built a prison of my fabrications.
When the bubble popped, the truth freed me from the web I’d woven. But it was already too late. The only thing left was a life buried under the ruins of the lies I made.

Lier, Lier
"Lies of omission are still lies," I said.
He shook his head. "You don't have to say everything."
"Right. But leaving out key details to create an illusion of truth? That's lying."
He rolled his eyes. "You're so paranoid."
I instinctively crossed my arms over my chest. "Am I? Because your version doesn’t add up, and the gaps are big enough to drive a truck through."
"Fine. Why don't you tell me?"
"Because I want to hear it from you."
He sputtered in astonishment, "You're telling me we can't climb because some moose-headed dude named Pamola might eat us?"
"He's a god, actually, he's got eagle wings and claws, too," I replied. "Best not to mess with him."
"What a ridiculous lie! You're just scared!" He turned and began climbing Mount Katahdin alone.
A couple hours later, the thunder rolled through the mountain. The fool was gone. "Legends ain't always lies," I muttered, as I packed up our gear.
