Hi! Welcome to another edition of the Batch! For some reason I had hard time getting my stories under 100 words this week. So we had quite a few high word count stories, and today’s no different with 100 words on a HARBOR
Our prompt for today is HARBOR

Accompanied only by the sound of crashing waves and the smell of sea salt; Mary stood in the harbor, her heart thumping as she watched the horizon, waiting for the blue flag with a stitched-in mermaid to appear. Mary’s soul sank deeper with every ship that wasn’t his.
Going home, her tears were as salty as the ocean she observed. Yet—despite the rain and lightning–she was there the next day; ready to watch, to wait, to hope.
She was there just in time to see the waves carry out splinters and a blue flag with a stitched mermaid.

Cade thought his days as a young squid on active Naval duty in Desert Storm were as close as he’d ever get to real danger. Then he taught his daughter to drive. She fared surprisingly well in open seas. Parking was another matter. After her third attempt to parallel the curb, they were left a dinghy ride short of shore. Mindful of the need to maintain her morale while upholding his oath to fight even domestic dangers, he gave at least a droplet of encouragement. “Well, sweetheart, we’re not quite at the dock but at least you made the harbor.”
Wendy paddled her kayak through the harbour. She was amazed at the cotillion of boats that were docked. So much money. So much energy tied up in one spot. She shook her head at a lifestyle she couldn't understand.
She felt giddy with the relaxation she felt just paddling using her own energy. Occasionally a fish would surface near her. Otters would paddle by paying little attention to her movements. The winds aided her movements and the sun warmed her soul.
As Wendy pushed her kayak towards the shore she thought, ”This is a great life. It can’t get better.”
