Kevin, the God of Death ... brilliantly unexpected! And the 'G' fell off 'Graveyard' ... kind of makes it a raveyard!

Late to the party ... sorry.

Party To It (flash fiction - 50 words)

He’d borderline jumped the red on Liberty. « Pick up some fizz. Party! » Maybe she’d forgiven him.

‘Bottles in the ice, dear, the boys and me will get them later. But first …’. She dropped the tiny towel, sliding her nakedness into the steamy tub. ‘That’ll be all, dear’

We sat on the stair

No one else there

Save for the party around us

Low light, loud music

Leaning in, feeling your warmth

We danced for a moment

Countering your melancholy

Side stepping your desperation

Appreciating the attention

No one thought to mention

That the party had to end

We have a political party unhinged from objective truth. This party is broken. Most people identify as Independent. Politicians continuosly tote their ‘party’s line’ catering to extremes. The corrupt Republican party exemplifies preferences for chaos, corruption, and division. They disregard accountability. Their mindset is entitlement and exemption from the law.

Betsy arrives 9/8/65. No hurricane party. Got candles, food and wine with wind rattling masking taped louvered glass windows about to crack slats stacked next to beds, remain in intact. Wind, water everywhere—pop Chianti cork spills on white shorts,t-shirt and sandals. Leftovers remain cold.

Thank you so much! Kevin is a character I had in mind for a while now. So it's been fun putting him on paper in a micro format at least :)

I enjoy reading these. Is the idea also that readers of the Substack rise to the challenge and write a 50-word story on the same topic, if they wish to? I'm up for giving it a try sometime if so!

Yup that's exactly it :) The idea is that the story sparks from the word, but you can go bonkers completely turn the prompt on its head. Like I wrote horror story on Blankets for examples :)

She stood awkwardly, smile etched on face. She’d rather be home, running a bath, making dinner, scrolling through her YouTube feed. Anything.

Colourful lights. Music droning on. Endlessly. Loud. She sighed. People were getting tipsy now.

She was invisible.

He appeared from nowhere, his eyes meeting hers.

“Enjoying the party?”
