The stars spun outside the window. Besides that, they remained unmoved. The vessel, stuck under the thumb of relativity, could only move so fast. Bernard's Star was a stone's throw on the galactic stage, but would still take centuries to reach.
Within the bounds of the generation ship, the travelers passed the time in memorial reverie, pining for their old home and longing for the new.
He gazed at her with carnivorous craving. Devouring her. With hunger. Unbridled lust. There was no other word for it. After all these years with her it never abated. It was unnatural, he thought. Unhealthy. The longing for his life predating her knew no bounds and would never go away.
