What had happened to all the people she thought she knew so well; neighbors, friends, lovers, even family? Had some dreadful mind destroying and throughly bizarre disease stolen their humanity? The ideas they accepted so enthusiasticly were anathema to everything she'd been taught. How could they embrace all the heinous plans espoused by such a failed being. Betrayed, bereft, and alone, she cried.

I know it was Valentines, and I really wanted to write something to tug at the heart strings, but this just came out. One last embrace means so much to so many different people.

He stood on the landing, tears in his eye, looking over the endless sea of people — lost, weeping, frightened — and looked down at his wife and children. He fell to one knee and hugged his son, kissing him and feeling the tears, tasting them as they spilled down the boy’s cheeks. He looked at his daughter. One final embrace, he thought as the Guards tore her from his arms. “Schnell!”

Embrace

70 Words

He had all the time in the world to read now. No job. No spouse. No children. A well-lighted reading chair and his library filled with all the books he’d acquired over the years. They waited on the shelves like patient friends with stories they were eager to share. He'd never know how he’d escaped the plague, but being alone didn’t frighten him. He embraced solitude.

70 words on "embrace"

I love our mornings, limbs intertwined, sleepy, yet aware. The warmth of your skin reminds me of the day we met. Our hands touched briefly, innocently, and we felt a spark, a lightning bolt that struck us, a flash that changed us from strangers to two souls who felt our futures become one. Now, 45 years later, we cling closely, charging our batteries for the oncoming day. That's an embrace.

“Hold me tight. Embrace me like there is no tomorrow,” Hazel moaned .

Jasper quickly complied.

“MMM,” she moaned again. “Your embraces are sooooo good. Can’t I stay? I will make it worthwhile.”

Jasper smiled as he watched her sashay out the door of the restaurant.

“Who was that?” asked Jennifer as she approached the table.

“An acquaintance,” Jasper replied as he embraced her.

“I love your hugs,” Jennifer moaned warmly.

PROMPT: EMBRACE

THE HUGS

Those were the best hugs.

When we were just curled up on the sofa, keeping warm under a blanket, watching TV.

Or when we were tucked up in bed, listening to the rain outside, on a lazy weekend morning.

Precious moments, and such special memories.

I loved that teddy bear… 🧸😎🧸

There was no point in running, even if they'd had the strength to do so. It was daytime, but the sky was black with ash. Aemilia listened to her husband's prayers, knowing they were in vain. The gods had surely abandoned this city to its fate.

"Marcus, please--"

His voice choked up, then stopped altogether. He had known too.

"I'm sorry," he murmured as he gave her one last embrace.

The stiff embrace was eerily cold. Neither Paul nor Connie felt any resemblance to a life lived in perfect harmony for almost eight years. There was really nothing left between these two grief-stricken souls. Death came to their two-year-old daughter by way of leukemia, and it destroyed their vibrant love. Their souls were ravaged. They were hollowed out. They were emptied of hope. God is grieving with them.

I had to spend a little extra time with this one. I wanted it to be just right.

Embrace

She stood on white sugar, the gentle waves beckoning her as they lapped the sand. Her toes felt the caress. Step after step took her out into the flat expanse of the Gulf of Mexico.

Her umbrella and towel were a distant marker on the shore. A large conch could be seen at her feet through the smooth sea.

She lowered herself into the warm embrace of the welcoming waters.

The lady mantis bites off her lover's head. The black widow eats her mate. An octopus happily consumes her companion after he's completed the deed. The anaconda mates with many males, only to eagerly devour one or two afterwards.

Human lovers, respect and cherish each other, take care not to harm. Lady Killers and Maneaters, beware! For those who embrace and then betray, karma offers several grisly possiblities of rebirth.

It was more side hug than embrace. Her heart skipped a beat when he squeezed her shoulders. At fifteen, she couldn't date, but no one said she couldn't have a crush on the handsome boy in homeroom.

There was a note in her locker the next day, a Valentine containing a bee holding a heart saying, "BEE Mine." Seventy years later, she laid it on his gravestone with a kiss.

Microdosing Fiction - 70mg of an Embrace

===

‘Look at me one last time.’

He pleaded in his mind, but she opened her eyes.

He felt another jolt, but he smiled at her.

Her injured body was tied to his. He extended his legs to keep away from the cliff wall, their bodies hanging by the broken harness.

It’s time. Tightening both arms in an embrace, he pressed his cheek to hers.

One last snap, and they fell.

Embrace - 70 words

Dark held no more terror for either of them now.

What had seemed cold, empty menacing in its unknownness, had become a warm, inky-black cloak wrapping itself around their unclothed souls and they let go of the last tendrils of their erstwhile corporeality.

Earlier sensations of falling down, descending into the void, had given way at first to buoyancy though that too had become meaningless in their eternal lovers' embrace.

The ache in his chest tells him he needs to hold her again. Smell her sweet skin as her head rests on his shoulder, hair tickling his cheek. Arms tight around his neck at first, then lazily rubbing up and down his back. To feel her tension melt away as their bodies soften into the embrace and her swaying rocks them both. But she is not his to hold…
