Sirens. Gunshots. Blood and screams. The cacophony of pain rang in their ears as they ran towards the car, carrying the heavy duffle bags.
The smell of burning tires filled their nostrils, and in moments, the realization set in—they were rich; time to split the loot, wash it, and live like kings.
The safehouse welcomed them back, waiting for the promise to be kept: a fifty-fifty split.
Instead, one more gunshot echoed between the walls of the safehouse—a bullet is the only promise among thieves.

She squeezed the wriggling pup, laughing through her slobbery kisses. Her objections melted along with her heart. “I will always take care of you,” she promised. “You’re my girl until the end.”
She squeezed her eyes shut against the tears as she pressed her forehead into the soft fur. She kissed the grey muzzle for the last time while the vet stood by, needle poised. “My sweet girl. Mine until the end,” she whispered. “It’s time to let you go.”
The Promise 80 Words:
The IED ripped through Corporal Roberts' body as he spoke one last word…”Promise” to Lt. Davis, who nodded the word back.
Davis returned to the States with her husband's remains in a box. Cheryl’s only concern was the insurance check.
A boat was charted, with Cheryl attending. Two miles out, she shook the box, unto the water. Somehow, her ankle became entangled in the anchor rope, pulling her overboard and disappearing beneath the waves.
“Promise Kept” smiled Lt. Davis.
