“Sin is what?” Carla murmured through anvil-heavy anguish. The confessional was chilled in despair. Tears pooled and then streamed down her pale cheeks. “Forgive me, Father. I knew it was a sin. I was weak. Lonely. So frightened. I pulled the gun’s trigger. I shot him. He was going to kill me. I just know it. I fired the gun.
