The big, strong hand that pulled her out of the water is now stroking Maria's hair, as if trying to calm her thoughts, erase all the time that has passed, wipe it off the calendar.

The thought of that was a lot to take in.
From now on, we’d be seeing each other every morning and every night. We’d be sharing meals and we’d be sharing secrets.
There was a real chance we’d never be apart again.
